You have worked hard and you made it! You were accepted as a graduate student at The Illinois College of Optometry. Congratulations!
Now, your next challenge...complete optometry school and begin your career as a Doctor of Optometry!
How will you practice? What will be your practice emphasis? Will you be in a primary care setting or a specialty area? Will you see children in your practice?
If you plan on providing primary care, then families will be a part of that care. Yes you will see children!
And since most of the children you will encounter will have two eyes, there is a likelyhood that some of these kids will have binocular vision problems. What is the likelyhood that a child will have a binocular vision problem?
- Less than 1%
- 2-4%
- 5-15%
- 20-25%

Hi Dr. F,
I'm finding mixed information about your question, but I'm going to say that 20-25% of children may have a binocular vision disorder. I am looking forward to hearing you speak on Thursday.

This website (http://www.eyetopics.com/articles/56/1/Vision-Therapy---Overview.html) states specifically that an estimated 20% of school aged children will have uncorrectable binocular vision problems. so if you include the correctable ones, than I guess it can go up to 25%.

The website (http://www.children-special-needs.org/questions.html#strabismus) states that 12% of the entire pop., has some form of binocular vision dysfunction. So...I'm going to go against the general consensus and vote 5-15%. I look forword to the lecture!

I'm going to agree with everyone else and go with 20-25%. I enjoyed the binocular vision dysfunction simulation. Thanks!
